LEADING A PURPOSE DRIVEN TEAM: EMPOWER TEAM MEMBERS

SCRIPTURE: “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 KJV)

QUOTE: “Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.” — John C. Maxwell

NOTE:

Empowering team members is a critical aspect of building a purpose driven team. It involves providing team members with the necessary resources, tools, and autonomy to excel in their roles. It begins with encouraging collaboration among team members to foster a sense of community and trust within the team. This can be achieved through open communication channels, group activities, and team-building exercises. Secondly, offer training and development opportunities to help team members improve their skills and keep up with industry trends. By investing in their professional growth, you show that you value their contributions and are committed to their success. It involves delegating responsibilities to team members to give them a sense of ownership and control over their work. This demonstrates trust in their abilities and can boost their confidence and motivation. Also, Policies that encourage team members to approach you with any concerns or questions they may have creates a
supportive and collaborative work environment where team members feel valued and heard and appreciated.

ILLUSTRATION:

Jesus was a servant leader who focused on empowering His disciples to carry on his teachings and spread his message. He worked to build a culture of trust, collaboration, and inclusion among His followers. Jesus taught His disciples to work together as a team and encouraged them to share their ideas and support one another. He also empowered His disciples by giving them significant responsibilities and challenging them to take risks. He gave them the authority to heal the sick and perform miracles, thereby demonstrating His trust in their abilities. This empowerment helped His disciples to develop their skills and grow in their roles, and ultimately helping to spread Jesus’ message of love and redemption throughout the world. Moreover, Jesus’ leadership style was characterized by humility and a focus on the need of others. He put the need of His followers above his own and modeled servant leadership through His actions. His servant leadership style has continued to inspire and guide leaders throughout history. By empowering his disciples to take on significant responsibilities and challenges, Jesus inspired his team to achieve great things and has left a lasting impact on the world. He has given us an excellent example of a leader who built a purpose-driven team by empowering his team members. The ball is now in our court!

REFLECTION:

  1. Do the people in your team feel empowered?
  2. How will you begin to empower them today?
